The neural tube forms and rolls in the first 28 days of pregnancy. I am not a physician but I suppose after that it is alright to resume Green Tea. I only drink 1 cup/bag a day, but I'm still giving that up till after those 28 days.

But in general black and green tea and coffee leach vitamins and minerals-paricularly Iron from your body. Avoid taking your pre-natal vitamin at the same time as your tea.

Also, under 200 milligrams of caffine is thought to be "safe" to consume while pregnant. That's fewer than 3-4 cups of black tea, and the typical cup of coffee. And if you are eating dark chocolate don't forget to count that caffine as well. Chocolate can sometimes have as much caffine as coffee.

Consequences of drinking too much caffine are that it does cross the placenta and can cause birth defects, or miscarriage.
